Paris, France, 09/10 - The French Socialist Party (PS) Friday condemned the "violation" of individual and collective freedoms in Tunisia, vowing to take up the matter with the French government.

"The French socialists are filled with indignation at the hunt for social activists in Tunisia. We express our solidarity with human rights activists in Tunisia," Philippe Lamy, a member of the PS national human rights secretariat, said.

Speaking at a news conference here in support of the Tunisian Human Rights League (LTDH), Lamy revealed that the human rights situation in Tunisia required "concrete actions, not just condemnations".

"We should no longer content ourselves with resolutions of principle on what is happening in Tunisia. We, as a political party, are going to write and question the French government on the human rights violations in Tunisia," the PS official assured.

Paris has been the scene of a general mobilisation for the defence of individual and collective freedoms in Tunisia after the tribunal of Tunis suspended the 6th National Congress of the Tunisian Human Rights League (LTDH).
